" The students have been busy with centers. Literacy centers offer meaningful learning experiences where students work independently or collaboratively to meet literacy goals.
This week's center include:
I'm a Little Penguin
(to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot")
I'm a little penguin
Black and white,
Short and wobbly
An adorable sight.
I can't fly at all
But I love to swim,
So I'll waddle to the water
And dive right in!
The poem is introduced as a shared reading activity and the children have many opportunities to read the poem together.
During the center activity, the group will read the poem, discuss the poem, find sight words, illustrate the poem, and add it to their poetry journal.
Math Center: Children will apply their understanding of addition to solve problems from
0-5. They will use a variety of different strategies including mental images, drawings, fingers, acting out situations, and count objects to solve.
ABC Center: Children will continue to explore the relationship between letters and letters sounds to create, read, and write words. Ending sounds are the focus this week in the ABC center.
Listening Center: Listening skills are important in life. There is a difference between hearing and listening. In kindergarten, we focus on the importance of listening.
The listening center involves headphones and book CD sets. This activity helps
